Madame Tussauds: Turns on the Selfie Mode

Madame Tussauds needs no introduction. Does it? With over twelve branches all over the world in places like L.A, Amsterdam, Germany and the most noted one in London, Madame Tussauds is a craze everywhere. Everyday, hundreds of people only dream to visit one of the Madame Tussauds Museums; preferably the one in London ; and click photographs with their favorite celebrities. And, I started my  Day 3 of London Adventures with a visit to the Madame Tussauds museum, early morning at 9:30 am.

The moment the elevators to the  display room opened, the wall which adorned several virtual media photographer visuals greeted me. With real lights imitating the flash of the camera; it made me feel like an important person. In fact, that can make anyone feel like an important person. Oh and the red carpet accompanied it 😛 !  When I walked into the room; it was already full . I could hear giggles, laughter, high pitch voices of excitement, everywhere throughout the room.

Being an Indian, naturally my first interest was towards the Bollywood celebrities. While I knew about Amitabh, Aishwarya and Shah Rukh Khan’s presence; Katrina came as a surprise. Moreover, Shah Rukh Khan was the only celebrity, whose wax statue was changed and given the avatar of his on-screen character in his newly released movie FAN.

Bollywood

Hollywood

Taking photographs with the Hollywood celebs was the major highlight for me. I personally, adore Leonardo Di Caprio, Sir Ben Kingsley, Julia Roberts and the outspoken Emma Watson.

World Leaders

After a while, my camera gave up. (I had taken far too many photographs than the memory card could hold 😛 ) So, I started taking selfies. To be honest, I am not a selfie person but without a camera what else could I do; and when in Tussauds selfie is the Tussauds way.

Classics

One cannot really forget the yesteryear classics. Though, I would not call Srek yesteryear ; cause it is very much relevant even today; but nevertheless, Srek truly is a Classic in its own way. Also, I don’t normally go out for a ride, but when I do, I take ET for the ride with me. 😛 .

Music

Can music ever be discussed without mentioning The Beatles?

Sports

I am not much of a sports fan, but I wouldn’t mind posing for one photo?

History

While I had thought that Tussauds only hosts wax statues, I was for a surprise when the journey continued on a ride. The ride lasting for about five minutes turning left, right, up down, diagonal and all probable paths possible illustrated the history of London through wax statues. From William Shakespeare, to the dungeons ; from market scenes to misery, plague and death every scene was depicted as if it was happening in front of the audience.

Unforgettable Memories

At the end of the day, what one takes away from Tussauds is memories. Oh and a selfie/ photo with Lady Marie Tussauds, after whom the entire museum is named.

The highlights of the museum are :

  • Taking photographs with your much-loved celebrities.
  • Exploring the history of London through a ride.
  • Watching the Marvel 4-D show (optional)
  • Getting a first hand demo on how the wax statues are actually made.
  • Walking the ramp in front of Anna Wintour and getting a photograph of it.
  • Shopping at the Tussauds shop.

Some additional Information about the museum:

Address: Marylebone Rd, London NW1 5LR

Opening Days: Monday- Friday: 9:30  AM- 5: 30 PM

Saturday- Sunday: 9 AM- 6 PM

Tickets: Standard £23.79 (approx.)

Official Website: https://www.madametussauds.co.uk/london/en/

Tip: It is better to book the tickets online rather than wait in the queue to purchase it physically. Buying it online, makes it less expensive and saves time and energy. Also, Madame Tussauds is managed by the Merlin Entertainments. There are certain clubbed passes available where one can get entries to two or more attractions by the Merlin Entertainments along with Madame Tussauds.

    1. Absolutely. The museum is open almost all days but has different opening and closing times . Also, it might just be closed during Christmas and New Year if not on other days. It would be great to confirm first when its open and then plan your day at the museum. 🙂

    1. I know right. When I went in there it became so difficult to recognise whos real and whos not. My friend thought she bumped into someone and ended up saying sorry to the statue of Emma Watson. While I actually bumped onto a real person but missed out on saying sorry. 😛

  6. I can’t remember the last time I visited a wax museum. But that one looks like a good one. I love that fact that it is not just about Hollywood, but there is a historical section as well. That would be a great way to teach my children about the heroes and heroines of the past.

    1. Yes, Madame Tussauds chain is the largest wax museums . Mostly people go there to take photographs with the wax statues of their fav celebs (thats also why I went) But in London, theres also the entire history of London explained through model wax statues, so thats a bonus.

  7. My first and last time I visited a wax museum…it had to be London’s Madame Taussauds. I had a great time taking photos, although the place was a a little bit too crowded with visitors. The place is way too pricey in my opnion. But it was worth to see a replica of certain celebrities.

    1. I agree with you when you say its pricey . But i think its worth having the experience once.

    1. Haha, there are some places which just brings out the latent kid in an adult . 😛 Well yes my excitement was on the highest scale. Partly because it was my first trip to London and London itself is so exciting; and partly because this is probably the closest one can get to celebrities 🙂 Definitely, Tussauds is expensive but London hosts the original Tussauds and I think its worth making a trip to it once. 🙂

  21. TO be honest, I think that Madame Tussaud is a very touristy rip off. It’s been made to make money from tourists, haha. I think that the ticket is very overpriced. However, I did visit once and I did enjoy the dungeon scary walk, the boat ride and the 4D movie. 🙂

    1. Yeah, it seems really great when you are actually walking around in the hall and looking at the statues. In fact, at times people dont understand who are statues and who are real people. i had seen someone standing beside a random chap thinking hes a statue only to realise hes made of flesh and bone 😛 You can see a virtual tour in Youtube.
