Buckingham Palace, London

My final destination for the London visit was the famous Buckingham Palace, seat of the Monarch of UK, in this case the Queen. Interestingly, the day I visited the palace was the official celebrations of the Queen’s birthday. Apart from the usual Change of Guards ceremony, a special celebration took place on this day. The Change of Guards occurs every single day around 11:30 am; except on certain circumstances.

Today, it is used not only as a residence but also as the administrative seat of London and a museum. In fact, the Queen often greets Heads of States in the Buckingham Palace or the Windsor Castle. A part of the palace is open to the public at certain times and tours are available which makes the people gaze and wonder at the rich and luxurious history of the British Royals.

This is probably the most famous frame of the palace. Thousands of tourists come here every year and click selfies and groupfies to remember their visit all through their lives. In fact, I can spot at least three groups busy clicking their own photos in this frame. 😛

Buckingham Palace is not too far away from the Trafalgar Square and the Horse Guards Parade, but since I had opted for the Hop- On Hop -Off Bus Tours this was one of the last few destinations. Buses and public vehicles are not allowed to stop in front of the palace. thus, they drop the tourists off at the bus stop from whence the palace is just a two minutes walk. From the bus stop the beautiful palace boundaries are visible with creepers and flowers growing in every direction.

In front of the palace gates are beautiful sculptures of angels and fairies. Here is what I could capture of some of those beautiful sculptures. . . .

The road in front of the palace is always decorated with the Flag of UK. It has rows of taxi waiting to pick up or drop hundreds of tourists who visit this landmark of London every single day.

Just beside the palace is where you can get a glimpse of the London Eye. This overarching feature can be spotted from every major attraction of the city.

  1. The Buckingham Palace is an iconic landmark of London. Though I am not much of a fan of Royalty. The historical and athe architectural implications of the castle cannot be ignored. The Palace must be on most traveler’s bucket list, and it is in mine too.

  4. This place is one of the most famous one and I’ve always been fascinated by it. It’s the core of the Great Britain, and the Royalty is completely tide to it. For me, it’s not even a Castle, but more of something unaitanable. Something representing Royalty, and it also reminds me a lot of Diana. Don’t know why, but when I think about Bukingham, I think of her. Anyway, I love all the tips and I’ve been already, but never inside – and I don’t think you can ever visit!

  5. I need to go here 🙂 I love the groupfies term you used, never heard it before and it made me laugh. It sounds like you enjoyed your time in London. I like the pic of the street, with all of the flags on the right side – looking at it makes me feel like I’m right there!

Great post! It was long, long time ago when I visited the Buckingham palace and I remember one car came out from the palace and we were hoping that we may see the Queen! 🙂 But unfortunately not. If I remember good, when the Queen is at the palace, there is a flag on the entrance.

  23. I did find Buckingham palace to be not as impressive as I imagined it to be, after visiting other castles in Europe, like the Schonnbrun in Vienna or the Royal Palace in Stockholm. Did you see the Queen? I’ve heard she went out for her celebration to greet the people 🙂

    1. Yes she did but unfortunately i was in Madame Tussauds at that moment so couldnt see her.

  27. Aw shame your London tour is over, I love Buckingham Palace ( at least from the outside) because I have never been inside it .

    1. I have never been inside it too. I found London a very expensive city and being a student could not incur the tour cost. But its great to see it from the outside as well. So I dont really have any regrets. Yes, its sad that my London tour is over but its also great that now I will visit new places and share my stories with you all. 🙂
